Water cooled turbocharger heat transfer model initialization: Turbine and compressor quasi-adiabatic maps generation

Water cooled turbochargers used in gasoline engines present a difficulty studies due to heat transfers both the turbine and compressor. Data available for users is usually measured stable operating conditions with high temperature gradients on side which affects compressor whole turbocharger. The between different elements are not quantified. Heat transfer models necessary quantify amount of exchanged an element calculate then real work produced or consumed. A lumped mass model presented this paper where every turbocharger considered as thermal mass. Three main represented: turbine, central housing. generate quasi-adiabatic maps using supplier geometrical data without more complicated tests. An experimental campaign conducted validate show effect water cooling elements. In model, treated separately barrier two. No coupling needed simplifies calculation compared other models.
